Fireplace Repair & Installation in Monsey & 30 miles around
Firebox rebuilds, damper replacement, smoke problems solved and new fireplaces installed.
What this service actually is
A fireplace that smokes, will not draft, or has a firebox cracking apart is not something to live with. Most of these problems have specific, fixable causes — a wrong-size damper, a smoke chamber that was never parged, a firebox with failed refractory mortar. We diagnose the cause instead of selling you a fan.
What you get
- Firebox rebuilds with proper refractory brick and high-temp mortar
- Damper repair and replacement, including hard-to-find sizes
- Smoke chamber parging and smoke-guard fixes for fireplaces that spill
- New wood, gas and electric fireplace installation
- Hearth, mantel and surround work coordinated with the rebuild
How we do it
1. Diagnose the real cause
Smoke problems come from draft, sizing, negative pressure or a rough smoke chamber. We test rather than guess.
2. Repair to code
Refractory panels and firebrick replaced with rated materials, correct clearances restored, damper and throat corrected.
3. Burn test before we leave
We light it, watch the draft, and do not pack up until the smoke goes where it is supposed to.
Signs you need fireplace repair
If any of these sound familiar, it is worth a call. There is no charge to ask.
- Smoke spills into the room every time you light a fire
- Cracked, gapped or crumbling firebrick in the firebox
- The damper is rusted shut, broken, or missing its handle
- Gaps in the mortar joints inside the firebox wider than a nickel
- You want to convert an unused fireplace into a working one
What it costs
Fireplace Repair & Installation typically runs $300 – $3,500 for a standard single-family home in our service area, and takes about 2 hours – 2 days. The variables that move that number are roof access, flue height, how many flues share the stack, and condition. You get a flat written quote before any work starts — see the full pricing page for every service we offer.

“They rebuilt from the roofline up. Three days, cleaned up every night, and the new brick matches the rest of the house perfectly. Price never moved from the quote.”
Why homeowners pick Hero
We are a family company working out of Monsey, not a national franchise routing your call to a dispatcher three states away. That means the person who quotes your job is on the roof doing it, the price does not change halfway through, and if something is not right afterward we are twenty minutes away.
Every visit includes photo documentation. Every recommendation comes with an explanation of what happens if you wait, so you can make the call on your own timeline instead of ours.
Fireplace Repair — common questions
Why does my fireplace smoke into the room?
Most often: the flue is undersized or oversized for the opening, the smoke chamber is rough and unparged, the damper does not open fully, or the house is too tight and starving the fire of makeup air. Each has a different fix, which is why the diagnosis matters more than the repair.
Can a cracked firebox wait?
Not long. The firebox is the last barrier between the fire and your framing. Cracks wider than about 1/8 inch, or missing mortar joints, should be repaired before the next burning season.
Can you convert my wood fireplace to gas?
Yes — gas logs, gas inserts and full gas fireplaces. Most conversions also need a properly sized liner, which we handle in the same visit.
Do you install new fireplaces?
We install wood-burning, gas and electric units, including the venting, framing coordination and finish work.
